LAKE SERIES, 1999

Oil on B&W photocopies on mylar on plywood, 36in. x 36 in. x 4 in.

Exploring the intersection of personal history and (Canadian) Art History, the photographs were taken by me in 1980s of our cottage lake near where part of my family settled when they arrived in central, Ontario, Canada in the 1880s. This intersects with Canadian Group of 7 painters that painted in the area and Nationalism’s that returned with the stories of their iconic landscapes of the 1915-1930s.

At the time these were done, 1999, I was living in Vancouver, BC, studying painting.
