Returning to the city of Toronto, Ont., from 12 years in Vancouver, B.C, I took short digital video clips of trees, in the urban forest, that had a gestural quality about them. I did this on my way to work and home, on my bike or walking from bus or streetcar stops. In Toronto, there is a tradition of having a cottage to travel a to few hours to the north of the city for weekends and holidays, to hunt and/or fish, or as it was once called ‘the bush’. Again, this work plays on the Canadian Art History narratives of the Group of 7.
