Returning to the city of Toronto, Ont., from 12 years in Vancouver, B.C, I took short digital video clips of trees, in the urban forest, that had a gestural quality about them. I did this on my way to work and home, on my bike or walking from bus or streetcar stops. In Toronto, there is a tradition of having a cottage to travel north of the city for weekends and holidays, or as it was once called ‘the bush’. Again, this work plays on the Canadian Art History narratives of the Group of 7.
