These paintings reference the Group of 7, lakes, forests, and Canadian shield rock outcrops of Southern Ontario. I grew up on this lake in central Ontario summers and a few weekends in the winters, where my ancestors settled and lived in the area since the 1870s. Some cousins still farm and work there. My immediate family has a cottage on one lake. I taught for two years in the subarctic (James Bay west coast). I transported personal goods to and from the community, and my knowledge of the land I know well in southern Ontario, in plastic containers and by small plane, like the locals. The frosted plastic containers also hold the dozens of paintings that make up the installation of One Lake, 2005-2009. Only a few paintings are hung for spectators.
